Spending Christmas with Family

This Christmas Eve and Day was much happier in our home this year because our daughter came home from college for winter break.  As usual it is such a blessing to have her home. I was able to plan better for this Holiday and to work on my plans because I have a month off from college. Also, I was able to give away my Christmas Eve work schedule to a coworker.

On Christmas Eve my family and I went to church and enjoyed the Christmas story portrayed in a play titled the Christmas Pageant. My daughter participated in the program at church by singing two songs. She sang well as usual. The program was well organized and the participants used their talents well.

After church it was back at our house to have lunch with my family which included my in-laws. We had a wonderful time talking and eating some good food. One of my sister-in laws stayed overnight and we watched movies and talked throughout the night.

On Christmas Day we had an early dinner because I worked the evening shift. I would have liked to have this day off also but it is hard to find someone who is willing to work on Christmas Day for another person when they are not scheduled to work. Overall, I am very happy and satisfied with how I spent my Christmas Holiday!!!

I hope for you my readers that you had a memorable time this Holiday.  I wish for you and yours a safe, peaceful. and prosperous Holiday Season and pray that you will experience multiple blessings in your life.

Be blessed,

During this Holiday Season Give Gifts that Really Matters

During this Holiday Season many of us have bought gifts or may still be buying gifts for our families and friends. For many of us the intention of gift giving is very thoughtful; however, how many times have we stopped to think about what people really need during this time. This time of year can be very lonely for some people and all they may need is our presence. A listening ear or a hug may help someone feel a sense of worthiness and acceptance. Therefore, take some time out to think about what people really need during this season and try to meet those needs. Here is a list of some gifts that may really matter:
  • Visit the shut-ins and talk or read to them.
  • Clean someone's house for the holiday.
  • Cook a meal for a family who cannot afford a meal.
  • Send a catered meal to a family who is facing difficult challenges.
  • Tell someone that you love and care for them.
  • Call that person that you have not spoken to in a long time.
  • Sit and hold the hand of someone who is dying.
  • Use your talent in music or poetry to bless someone.
  • Write a letter of forgiveness to someone who have hurt you.
  • Be present when talking to people.
  • Pray with someone.
My friends, I hope you will give gifts that really matters during this Holiday Season.

Have an enjoyable and safe Holiday.

Be blessed,

Joy

It is Possible

My Dear Readers,

It is about 2:45 AM and I am thinking about you. I am wondering what are your thoughts as you come closer to the end of another year. Will you consider 2011 a successful year? What about your goals, did you achieve them? Did you have a plan for your goal/s, and did you work on that plan? Whatever your answers are to the aforementioned questions it is not too late to make a fresh start or to complete what you began.

If you have accomplished your goal/s for 2011, I would like to congratulate you for your accomplishment/s. If you were not successful with your goals it is now time to look back and find the lesson/s the events of working on your goal/s have taught you. Once you have learned your lesson and you know that your goals are right for you, I want to encourage you to try again. And for those of you who went through the year without a goal/plan I am encouraging you that it is not too late to start working on a goal.

It is possible to achieve the goals that are right for your life. You must believe that your goals are achievable. You must be willing to work hard and smart. Defeat should not be an option for you. Surround yourself with people who believe that you can make your dreams become reality. Learn from your mistakes and keep on working until you are successful.

I wish you all the best my friends as you work to achieve your goals.

Be blessed,

Joy

The Ups and Downs of Fall Semester

I am very thankful to God for all the help that He had given me throughout fall semester. I am also thankful for my family, friends, classmates, teachers, and co-workers who supported me during this semester. I could not have made it without the help of God and my support system. During this semester I learned many new information about healthcare in areas such as research, mental health, and geriatrics; nevertheless, this semester was the most challenging semester I have ever experienced in my life.

There were times in this semester when I had to cry because I did not know how I could read about 1,000 pages in three weeks for one class. I had three classes and one class had four areas and three different professors. At times the task ahead seemed impossible and I had to cry out to God for help, and He heard my cry and helped me to come out successful in this semester. There were times when I did not feel the strength to attend school and work, but with the help of God I kept going. There were many sleepless nights that I spent studying and working on assignments, and with the help of God I am still standing and looking forward to spring semester, 2012.

Despite the fact that fall semester was very challenging for me I am very appreciative of the opportunity that I have to work on completing my BSN. I would not want to be working on anything else at this time. So, at this time I say thank you Jesus for helping me to have a successful semester and thank you my support system for always being there for me when I need you most.

Therefore, my friends if you have the desire to work on a project or go back to school I would encourage you to seek God's help and start working on your goal/s. I cannot tell you that it will be easy to achieve your goal/s, but I can tell you that it is possible to achieve your goal/s. May God bless you as you work on the desires of your heart.

Experiencing the Opposite of what I Planned for my Day

I had planned to attend church this morning and to have a wonderful time worshiping God and fellowshipping with my church brothers and sisters. However, I did not plan to have a headache in half of my head and face. Consequently, I was unable to attend church and all my plans for church had to be aborted. Therefore, I tried to make the best of my situation. With the headache I prayed, I read a little, I listened to a few gospel music, and now I am writing. Although, I did not get to do what I planned, I will not let this headache keep me down. I am also believing God for my healing. I will rejoice in the God of my salvation because I have everything to be thankful for. I have life, a family, and good friends. So, I just want to praise God because He is wonderful, good, kind, merciful, my hiding place, a friend in the time of trouble, my savior, my king, my protector, my great physician, and my everything. He is the Great I Am!

Take care until next time. May God bless you abundantly!

Summer Semester is History and Fall Semester is Here

Well, summer semester was here and is now history. I found this semester challenging because I had never taken more than one class in the summer before. However, this summer I took four classes and despite the many challenges with God's help and hard work I was able to have a successful semester.

I had many sleepless nights trying to keep up with the reading assignments and completing my assignments on time. I am thankful that I was able to turn in all assignments on their due date. I know from my experience that working and going to school are very challenging but can be successfully done if one is willing to work very hard.

I am thankful to my co-workers Mary and Christina who traded hours with me so that I could attend my classes. Without their help I could not have made it. Also, I was in one of the best clinical groups where everyone cared for each other. All of their help and positive energy helped to lighten the load of school. We were also blessed with one of the best clinical instructors, Professor Martin, who went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure that we had the best clinical experience. I am also thankful to my husband and children for their continued support.

Two weeks have gone since fall semester began and as usual at the beginning of each semester the work seems overwhelming. Nevertheless, with time the work will become more manageable as I plan my time to best suit my workload. With all the positive support that I have, I know that with God's help I will have another successful semester.

At this time, I pray for everyone who is studying or working on a life's goal. I pray for your strength, for wisdom, knowledge, and understanding in all that you do. I also pray that you will be successful in all that your hands find to do. Amen

Be blessed,

Joy

It's a Beautiful World

Everyday we should take time out of our busy schedule to enjoy the beautiful things that life offers. We may not have a lot of money but we can stop and "smell the roses." Just step out of your doors and look around or look up and you can find something to appreciate. It could be a blue sky, fluffy white clouds, a green tree, birds chirping, a pond, or blooming flowers. Below I have placed some pictures from my husband's summer garden. Please take some time today and enjoy some of the beauty that you can find in your neighborhoods.

I pray that you will have a blessed day!!

The Thompsons: A Dynamic Husband and Wife Team

                                                 Elder and Sister Thompson

Elder and Sister Thompson are a dynamic husband and wife team who literally live the following scripture verses every day. “For I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me” (Matthew 25: 35-36). This husband and wife have dedicated their lives to serve God and their fellow human beings. They are selfless, caring, compassionate, dependable, committed, and zealous at doing the work of God and helping their fellow human beings. They are presently involved in many forms of ministries such as: Prison Ministry, Personal Ministry, Children and Youth Sabbath School, Disaster Preparedness, visiting the shut-ins, and feeding the homeless. This couple does not only serve in church related ministries but also serve others in their everyday lives.  For example: They have purchased food with their own money and distributed the food items to the less fortunate in several communities. I can emphatically say that this husband and wife team are not only hearers of God’s words but are definitely doers (James ).

Elder Thompson is truly a man of God who has dedicated his life to help lead others to God. He is a man of faith who is very positive. He is highly educated and has many degrees which include a Master of Business Administration (MBA); however, he does not talk about his education or other accomplishments that he has received. If you should meet him he is not likely to mention his educational accomplishments; he will only lift up Jesus. Whatever he does in God’s kingdom he does it with all his might. Elder Thompson loves everyone and he is passionate about winning souls for the kingdom of God. He also loves to teach the young people of our church about Jesus, and he is very happy when they choose to follow Jesus. He also cares about their academic education and will do whatever he can to help them achieve their goals. Example: Elder Thompson wrote a recommendation for my daughter that helped her to get a scholarship for college. Whenever you see Elder Thompson he is on a mission that will help bring others into God’s Kingdom.

“Behind every successful man is a good woman” and Sister Thompson is a very good woman. She is not only a good wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend but she is also a child of God who is committed to spreading the word of God and helping others in every way that she can. Sister Thompson is a teacher and an entrepreneur who does not make her many accomplishments in life prevent her from serving the underserved of her community. She takes time out of her busy schedule to help others who are in need. Examples: She cooks for people in a homeless shelter. When my husband and I took our daughter on a road trip to college Sister Thompson gave us money and food to help with our trip. She has also helped our daughter significantly in ways that we will always be grateful to her. She is also a woman of great faith. I have watched her stood in faith when the doctor told her that she had four months to live. She made a conscious decision to trust God’s word and he healed her from cancer. She has been completely healed for over 10 years.  She is also actively involved in each area of work that her husband is involved in. Sister Thompson lives each day for the Lord and if you should meet her she will tell you that, “God is good all the time!”

The Thompsons are an exemplary couple who are working in God’s kingdom. They have devoted their lives to serve God and their fellow human beings. They are ardent workers in God’s vineyard and have made many sacrifices to help others. This husband and wife have worked and are still working to make this world a better place. Many people have been blessed because of the many services that they have rendered to them. They have introduced Jesus to those who are in need of a Savior and have met the basic needs of others who are in need of items such as food and clothing. Elder and Sister Thompson have chosen to live according to God's standards and each day they experience God's love, happiness, and peace in serving God and humanity.

                                                     My Prayer

Father in the name of Jesus, I pray that you will continue to bless Elder and Sister Thompson abundantly in all that they do. Please grant them the desires of their hearts that are according to Your direct will for their lives. Please protect them and prosper them as they work in your vineyard. Father, I thank You for answering this prayer in the name of Jesus.

I also pray that you will bless everyone who reads this post and may all their needs be met in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Be blessed,

Joy

I Am Still Standing

Hi Friends and Family,

I have been having a very busy time but I am still standing. I have taken some time out of my busy schedule to enjoy and appreciate God's creations. We have had a few beautiful days in which the sun was shining brightly, the sky was blue with patches of fluffy white clouds, and the trees were so green and pretty.

I do need some time off just to relax and I believe that God will make away so that I can get some days off. I tried to get some time off from work but I was denied the time off; however, I believe in miracles and I know that God will work this out for me somehow.

I must go now but I just want you to know that I am thinking of you. May all your days be filled with joy, peace, and contentment.

A Special Prayer for My Immediate Church Family

Father God, in the name of Jesus, I am very thankful to you for my church family. I thank you for the many mercies you have bestowed upon them. I thank you for keeping them safe and loving them unconditionally. Please continue to meet their daily needs and help them to tell others about You. Father there are members in the church who have special requests and I am asking you to please grant them those requests according to Your will for their lives. Kindly heal those that are sick, provide jobs for those that are jobless, provide compatible partners for those that are single and seeking a husband or a wife. Please remember all the young people that are going off to college this fall and also those that are already in college. Please keep them safe while they are away from home and let them accomplish all that you have planned for them. Please remember the pastor and his family. Continue to bless them in all that they do. Father, I thank you that you invite us to call upon You and You promise to answer us. Thank You so much for answering this prayer in Jesus Name. Amen.

Dear God, please grant a special blessing to everyone that may read this prayer. May their lives be forever changed and may they always walk in prosperity. Amen.

Focused and Goal Oriented: Definitely not Swayed

My daughter acting as Hero in "Much to do About Nothing"

I have watched my daughter set goals for herself, and even when the goals seemed like they would not be realized she would continue to work at those goals until they are accomplished. My husband and I admire our daughter's strength and perseverance.  Once my daughter believes that she has set a goal that is right for her she is not likely to be swayed from that goal by any challenges or temptations.

My daughter loves acting, and during her freshman and sophomore years she was only getting small parts in school plays. Nevertheless, she believed that she would get a leading role before she graduated. Therefore, she continued to audition and even if she got a small part she would act to the best of her abilities. Once she was a spoon in Beauty and the Beast and she said, "Mom, I will be the best spoon." In that play I must say she shined in that small part because she gave it her all. She eventually got bigger and bigger roles in her junior and senior years and got leading parts in the high school plays. With perseverance and a never give up attitude she had her dream realized of acting in leading parts in two high school plays.

My daughter used the same determination that she used in acting in her academic work and college selection. She worked hard throughout high school, carrying a full load of courses throughout the four years of high school. After graduation she had many offers from colleges that she could choose from. From the list of colleges that wanted her she chose the college that she believes would help her meet the goals that she has for herself. The goals that she has set for herself are not easily attained but I have watched her worked hard to keep on track so that she can accomplish her goals. Each semester she takes 16 credits and also work during the semester. Each semester with God's help she has come out with very high GPA. She has completed half of her journey and with God's help she will complete the second half. Her success is also based on prayer, family and friend support systems, church family, and the school system.

We are also very proud of our daughter and we admire her determination to tackle challenging situations. We fully give her our support as she work to accomplish her goals.

Because I believe that we all need strength from a higher power as we tackle our daily tasks and our life's goals, I pray for the strength of our daughter and for all other daughters who are working on their life's goals. May God give you daily strength to accomplish all the plans that you have for your life. Amen.

Joy

A Son that Makes His Mama and Papa Proud!!

While raising our son we knew that he would attend college and make the best out of life. Attending college was an expectation for my two children. They both knew that they would go to college from an early age. My son attended the Mico College University, my alma mater, and graduated in 2002. Since then he as attended other universities and have completed his course of studies with very high GPAs. During fall semester my son will tackle an important milestone in his educational career and I wish him all of God's blessing on this new journey. Our son is a self-motivator and a very hard worker. My husband and I are very proud of our son and the choices that he has made in life. Through prayer, good family and friend support system, the church family, the school system, and the people in our communities my son is able to make the best of what life has to offer. My beautiful daughter-in-law is also a blessing in my son's life. Her support for him is tremendous. She supports him to be all that he can be in life. Therefore, I would like to thank all of you who have prayed for my son, those who have given him an encouraging word, and those people who had him over their homes for sleep-overs. Your kindness and generosity towards my son are appreciated. Thanks to all of you our son is doing well in life.

At this time, I pray for all sons that they will be all that God wants them to be in life. I pray for parents that they will send positive messages to their children and let them grow up knowing that they can do all things through Christ who gives them strength.

It's Going to be Alright

Hi Everyone,

I am just stopping by to encourage you, today. I am still very busy with school and my time is very limited; however, I want you to know that I am thinking about you. Whatever you are going through today I want to let you know that it will not last forever. There will come a time when you can look back and rejoice because you are an overcomer. Below you will find one of my favorite songs. Please listen to it and meditate on the words. I am praying for you.

Finding Her Path

                                                         My beautiful daughter

My lovely daughter finished her sophomore year in college this spring and is looking forward to starting her junior year this fall. This summer she is working as a residential assistant (RA) at her college and she indicated to me that she likes the responsibilities of the job. She also stated that she is learning from the challenges that come with this job. She had informed us when she came home for spring break that she would not be coming home this summer. Her father and I supported her decision to stay at college throughout the summer. However, we did not know that this decision would be so hard on the emotions; nevertheless, we still know that we did the right thing in giving her our support.

We know that our daughter is finding her path in life, and experiences such as her summer job will help to enhance her leadership skills. This experience will also help her as she finds her path in life. So, as hard as it is to not have our daughter home for summer we are very proud of her for choosing to work at her college as a summer RA. We can clearly see that our daughter is growing up and is making good choices in life. Therefore, we are thankful to God and to the many people that He has used to positively influenced her.

Today, I pray for my children and for the children of everyone that reads this blog. I pray that they will find their purpose in life and work in that purpose to serve others. May they be a blessing to others and may they receive all the blessings that belong to them from the foundation of the world. This is my prayer in Jesus' name. Amen.

Be Blessed,

Joy

I Must Carry On

"The heights that great men reached and kept were not attained by sudden flight,
but they, while their companions slept, were toiling upwards through the night." (Henry Wadsworth Longfellow)

It is about 1:42 AM in the morning and although I am tired I cannot go to sleep because I have two assignments that are due today. I worked the evening shift yesterday and reached home a few minutes after 12 midnight. I am very tired but I must get my assignments completed because after work tonight will be too late.

I am making the sacrifice now to finish my BSN program, and at the same time I have to find time to smell the roses. Therefore, tomorrow before work I will go to a nearby lake to just sit and meditate.

I wish I could write on this blog more often but right now I must spend time completing my assignments. After spring semester I only received about five days off  before starting summer semester; and as a result, this time is a bit challenging because I have never taken more than one class in the summer before. Anyway, there is always a first time in every new event. Therefore, with God's help I will carry on until I finish my course.

I pray that you will complete your goal/s also and be successful in all that you do!!!

Be Blessed,

Joy

Spring Semester 2011 is now a part of my History

Spring semester 2011, will be recorded in my history book as one of the most challenging semesters that I have completed. The amount of work during the semester was humongous and I had limited time to complete all the work that needed to be done. Nevertheless, with the help of God and the support that I received from family, coworkers, and friends I was able to finish the semester. All my hard work and sleepless nights paid off in the end. So at this time, I want to give thanks to God and to all of you that supported me during spring semester 2011. I could not have been successful without your help.

This song is dedicated to all of you who have been there for me:

I Can't Live A Day Without You

I love all of you dearly!!! You know who you are. May God grant all of you a triple portion of blessings!!

A Tribute to My Friend June

Many years ago when I was a teenager I met a girl by the name of June. I do not remember exactly how we met but I have always remembered her kindness towards me. June had a good heart and today she is still as caring towards people as when I met her in the 1970s. Today, I had the privilege of telling June thanks for showing me love and kindness in my teenage years.

June genuinely cares about people and when you are around her she makes you feel comfortable. June welcomed me into her home many years ago, and I felt that her home was my home too. While going home from school each school day, I had to pass June's house. Many evenings I would stop at her house and read some of her books and also have dinner. There was no time limit to my staying at her house. I could  stay as long as I wanted. I have never felt a negative energy around June. She is the most selfless and accepting person that I know. June has that special gift of accepting an individual for who he or she is. Throughout my life I have always thought about her and the impact she had on my life. June is non-judgemental and will only build up a person.

June helped to enhance my reading skills in my teenage years by lending me many books. She loved to read and had many books at her home. I also loved to read and she readily let me borrow her books. She constantly bought books so I had many books to read just for fun.

I had lost contact with June for many years and only found her on Facebook two days ago. I am so thankful to God for allowing me to find her and to be able to express to her how thankful I am that she was such a positive part of my life.

Today, I am thankful to God that I have found June, and I pray that God will continue to bless her and use her mightily for His honor and glory. May her life be long and prosperous!  May her days be filled with a double portion of blessings, and may she continue to be a shining light from God as she helps others. Amen.

I am Thankful

I am thankful for a new day. It is dark and cloudy outside; however, in my heart I am rejoicing because I am alive and I am in my right mind. I am also thankful that this semester is almost over, and I look forward to a few days off before starting next semester. I am thankful to God for giving me strength to make it in these challenging days. I am also thankful to my family, friends, and instructors for their support. So, for the few hours that I will not be studying today, I just want to express how thankful I am that I have life!!!!

A Prayer for Help

Dear God, in the name of Jesus, I thank you for life, protection, family, and friends.  I pray that you will forgive me of all my sins, and I accept your forgiveness. I pray that you will continue to give me, my cohort, my family, coworkers, professors, and friends strength, knowledge, wisdom, and understanding to accomplish our immediate and future goals. I pray for Your divine help in all that we do, and may we remember to give You honor and glory for helping us.

Father God, I pray specifically for myself, my daughter, my son, my cohort, and all students that are doing finals at this time. I pray that You will continue to guide and strengthen us as we study. Please help us to feel refreshed each day even though we are not getting enough sleep. Also, please help us to understand and remember all the materials that we need to know for our examinations. I also pray for the strength of the professors, and I pray that they will be fair in grading all their students. I pray that both students and professors will be honest in all that they do, and no one will be hurt due to dishonesty. Father, thank You for hearing this prayer and answering it, in Jesus' name. Amen.

Projecting into the Future

I am taking a few minutes to write about my feelings, and to update what is going on in my life. There have been very few changes in my life recently. I am still juggling school work, my job, and personal life. So far, keeping ahead has been challenging. I need a day with more than twenty-four hours to keep up with all that I have to do. However, I am still optimistic that I will achieve my goal of graduating next spring. Therefore, I have placed a picture in my mind of me in my graduation gown. I know that I have the abilities to achieve my goal. I am able to do the work; however, more time is what I need. I could work less days but I will lose my health insurance. I work just enough days to get health insurance for me and my family.

It is scary not to have health insurance, yet I know that there are many people without it. Many of those people do not have health insurance because they do not have a job, and I empathize with those people. I have a daughter in college who is covered under my insurance plan and I just could not have her in college without health insurance. I believe I will find a way with God's help to have more time to get me through this course.

Taking less credits in school is not an option for me because the classes are set for my cohort and we take all classes together. Dropping out is not an option either because my cohort is the last one in this program. Also, I do not believe in defeat. I believe that with hard work and commitment one is able to achieve his or her goal. I also believe that God will give me wisdom on how to get more time to accomplish all that I have to do.

I look ahead to graduation day when I will be able to say thank you God, thank you family and friends, thank you church family, thank you instructors,  thank you to the members of my cohort, thank you co-workers, and thank you readers for all your support. I know I could not have done it without you.

So, until then I will carry on until I gain my prize. My prayer for you is that you will receive the strength that you need to accomplish your goals. I pray that you will receive the answers that you need for that thing that is closest to your heart. May God bless you abundantly.

Having Support From My Husband: Priceless

I am really thankful for the tremendous support that I have received and I am still receiving from my husband. My husband has suported me in every way through happy times and sad times. Since our marriage, I have been in school three times and each time he has helped me without complaining.

My husband has taken on almost all the chores at home because he knows that it is very challenging for me to juggle school, work, and family responsibilites; therefore, he has relieved me of many of our family responsibilities so that I will have time to study and do my assignments. I just could not make it in school if I did not have the support from my husband. The support that I have received from my husband and I am still receiving is priceless.

I pray for people who are in relationships. I pray that God will be the center of your relationships. I also pray that you will love, care, and support each other. I pray that you will help each other to be all that he/she can be in this life. I pray that you will have the peace of God in your lives now and always. Amen.

Time Spent with Family: Priceless

Family has always been very important to me. I was born to parents who really wanted children. My father had other relationships before he met my mother and in those relationships he wanted children but all his efforts were futile. However, when he met and married my mother he was blessed with five children. Unfortunately, the first child died at eighteen months and I was like the first child, even thou I am the second child. My mother and father always treated us with love and kindness. My siblings and I felt wanted by our parents. We were blessed to have both our parents at home while we were growing up.

My father loved to tell stories. He would planned story telling nights with us and other times he would tell stories to us and other children from the neighborhood. Time spent on my father's lap or next to him while he told us stories is priceless. My siblings and I love to reminisce on the wonderful time that we spent with our parents. Time spent with my parents and siblings is priceless.

When our son was living at home he would tell stories to us and dramatized portions of the stories. He loves to entertain people. My son is also an excellent musician. He plays the drum. piano, and guitar very well. We enjoyed those moments with our son. Time spent with our son is priceless.

Our mother is one of the most selfless person that I know. My mother cared and nurtured us. She let us know that we were all special. Our mother is a woman of great faith. I have never heard my mother speaking negatively about any subject. Even when the outcome of things do not look promising , she will still find something positive to say.

This spring break my husband and I had our daughter home for one week. I must say that we had a wonderful time. Time spent with our daughter is priceless. No amount of money in the world can equate to the time spent with my family.

I pray for families everywhere. I pray that the relationships among family members will be filled with love and understanding. I pray that there will be a strong support within each family and that the strong members will encourage and support the weak members. Amen.

I am Taking One Day at a Time

My schedule is so full that it is only with God's help and the knowledge of prioritizing that is getting me through this time. I will not get anything done if I do not make a list of what is to be done on a daily basis. I have to stay committed to my daily list and make sure I work on items that have the closest deadlines.

I am working with limited time; therefore, If I could afford not to work until I finish college I would be able to work better on all the projects that I have to complete. I am really praying for a miracle that will allow me to have more time to work on my assignments and to have some time to get adequate sleep at nights.

The members of my cohort and I were informed that our course was challenging and it was recommended that if it were possible we should not work while doing this course; however, most of us in my cohort are working. The more days we work the less time we have to work on our projects.

Despite the limited time that I have to work, I am very committed to this course. If I have to cut more things out of my life I will do so; however, by God's grace and mercies I will not cut school.

So, today I pray for myself, the members of my cohort, and anyone else who need a miracle in their lives. I pray that God will give us wisdom on how to use our time wisely.  I pray that God will send us solutions for our problems. I pray that He will give us strength and help us to accomplish our goals and all the desires of our hearts that are within His will for our lives. Amen.

Juggling My Personal Life, Work, and School - Part 3

Last week-end I worked and this week I will work a couple days. There are many needs to be met at my job and I really love to help meet the needs of the clients. However, it is very challenging to meet all the requirements of school, fulfil my duties at work, and take care of myself. If you notice I did not even say take care of my family because my husband is doing most of the care at this time.

I just could not manage if my husband was not doing almost all the chores around the house. I am very tired especially on days that I go to work and can hardly find energy to do anything else. I am very thankful to my husband who is helping me and making it possible for me to achieve my educational goals.

My commitment to my educational goals is the drive that keep me going. It is very important to me to finish my academic path. Therefore, I pray for strength and guidance as I put the necessary work in to accomplish my goals.

To My Readers:

I pray for your strength and I pray that God will guide you on the paths you have chosen. I pray that happiness and success will be yours now and always.

Juggling My Personal Life, Work, and School - Part 2

On February 25, 2011, I was able to sleep in until 9:00 AM because my Friday morning class was cancelled. I was very happy to have this rare opportunity to sleep in. I was able to deposit a few hours sleep in my sleep deprived sleep bank. I am very aware that adequate sleep is important to have a balance; however, it is very hard to get adequate sleep with my schedule. Nevertheless, I will try my best to deposit more sleep into my sleep bank.

I was able to get about two hours of study time this morning. I wish I was able to put more time in but I wanted some "me time." I got my hair washed and braided, meditated, and dance to a Mary Mary CD. I truly enjoyed my "me time."  It is very important to take care of myself so that I am able to help care for others.

My commute to work was pleasant. I was able to be present throughout the trip. I totally enjoyed the beautiful landscapes that are always present on my trip to work. It was another sunny day but this time there were white clouds in the sky.

It was a very busy shift at work. My team staff member and I worked hard as usual to help meet the needs of the clients. At the end of my shift I was really tired but satisfied that we had worked to the best of our abilities to accomplish our tasks.

Well, I am home now and after a very busy night I should be sleeping, so until next time I wish you well and Hope you have a peaceful and productive day.

Juggling My Personal Life, Work, and School - Part 1

OK, I took some time away form my stack of books and my online assignments to write about my day. This morning I woke up to a beautiful day. The sun was shining, the sky was clear and blue, and it was about 22 degrees outside. My commute to school was very good. The traffic was flowing this morning and I could drive at the speed limit for most of my trip. I was in class five minutes before the professor began to lecture. The class went well and as usual I came away from class feeling like my time was well spent. I am blessed to have professors who are talented teachers and have the gift of clearly imparting knowledge.

After class, I was happy to be outside and I felt very blessed to be walking to my car under a clear blue sky. After driving home on so many snowy days in recent weeks, I felt very happy to be driving home on roads that are dry and free from snow. I could still see the snow on the sides of the road; however, the people who cleaned the snow did a very good job because the freeway was completely free of snow.

At home I ate, watched about 15 minutes of television, and did some online assignments. Then, I went to my doctor's appointment. At the doctor's office I was able to read one of my textbooks while I waited for the doctor. On my way from the doctor I connected with my son by telephone.

Back at home, I called my mother and my sister and talked with them for awhile. It was good to connect with my sister and mother. I always love to talk to them.

Well, it is now time to do my meditation and then to go back to studying. I will see you all tomorrow.

A world of knowledge is waiting for me!!!

It's not over Until it is Over

Hi Everyone,

I missed blogging on a regular basis; however, my schedule has been completely filled. I have also had some recent ups and downs in the journey called life; nevertheless, my spirit is high and my attitude is in the right place.

I believe that events happen in our lives to help make us stronger. I agree with Andre Crouch who said, "... if I didn't have a problem, I wouldn't know that God could solve them, I wouldn't know what faith in God could do ...."

I also believe that I should do all that is in my power to work out my situations and the things that I cannot do my heavenly Father will do for me. He may choose to work out my circumstances immediately or he may choose to walk me through the fire or flood.

I also know that it's not over until it is over; therefore, I will not give up on my goals in life. I will always, by the help of God, do my very best in all the things that I find to do.

I pray that you will be strong as you work out your circumstances. I pray that you will receive the answer that is best for your situation. I pray that you will be blessed and that you will be whole in every area of your body. May you receive the desires of your heart. Amen

Be Blessed,

Joy

May you always walk in your blessings!!

Becoming a Better You

We live in a constantly changing world. There are no two days that are exactly alike. We are bombarded everyday with numerous stressors; therefore, it is imperative that we take care of ourselves so that we can manage the stress in our lives. If we do not learn how to manage the stressors in our lives we may become ill from these stressors. Stress can cause diseases such as heart disease and respiratory complications. We may do the same exact things on a daily basis but the world around is changing and there are numerous opportunities for us to become a better person who is able to cope with the events in our lives.

How can we improve ourselves so that we can cope with the stressors in our lives? To improve ourselves we must examine ourselves and identify our strengths and our weaknesses. After identifying our weaknesses, we need to formulate a plan that will help us strengthen our weak areas. Example: If Mary is always late for work, she needs to work on time management that will allow her to leave her home earlier so that she can be at work on time.We also need to take inventory of the stressors in our lives and reflect on how we are dealing with these stressors. Are we using stress interventions to help us cope with the stressors in our lives? If we do not have stress interventions in place to lessen the effects of stress on our lives we need to start identifying stress interventions that we can use when we are stressed.

Here are some stress interventions that you can use to help lessen the effects of  stress in your life:

  • Breathing Meditation
  • Guided Imagery
  • Having an attitude of gratitude
  • Dancing
  • Singing/listening to music
  • Walking/jogging
  • Positive self-talk
  • Saying no to added workload when you know that you cannot manage any more task (Greenberg, 2009).
I encourage you to make a decision to use some of the above-mentioned stress interventions in your life before you feel stress or at any point that you feel stressed. Stress interventions have been proven through research studies to lessen the effects of stress in people (Greenberg, 2009).

I pray that you will take the necessary steps to manage the stressors in your life on a daily basis so that you can live your best life.

You may start using stress interventions right now by having an attitude of gratitude.

What do you do when your Mountain Seems Impossible to Climb?

In the Bible story of David and Goliath it appears as if David had taken on an impossible fight. Goliath was not only a giant but he had experience fighting in the Philistine Army. Who was David? He was a shepherd boy who believed that with God all things are possible.  When David challenged Goliath for a fight he knew that he was already victorious even though to the natural eyes it appears that he could not win. This story is widely known, and we know that at the end of the fight Goliath was dead and David was still standing. In life many of us are faced with giants or mountains of problems that appear impossible to solve; however, if we keep fighting with the help of God and have the right mindset we can overcome our giants and climb our mountains.

What mountain are you facing today? Is it a mountain of sickness, debt,or relationship problems? Whatever mountain you are facing  I am encouraging you to stay in the fight until you win.

In order to obtain strength to face your mountain you need to be connected to a Higher Source. For me, my Higher Source is the God of heaven. I talk to Him about all my problems. I draw strength from His Words that are found in the Bible. I am encouraged by the Words that I read in the Bible. I know and believe that with God all things are possible. I believe that with my Creator I can climb my mountain.

I cannot emphasize enough that a support system is very important. We all need other people in our lives. Not everyone is good for us; however, we can all find people who will support us. We can find these people in our family and friend groups, at church, at school, at work, or in organizations that counsel and help people. A support system is there to listen to us, give advice when necessary, and to help in other ways such as watching a child, accompanying us to buy clothes to wear for that interview, going to court with us, visiting us in the hospital, and watching a movie with us.

To successfully climb your mountain you first must have climbed it in your mind. You have to see yourself on the mountain top. You have to know that climbing your mountain is possible. You must be determined to stay in your fight until you win. You have to make up your mind that defeat is not an option and failure is a stepping stone to success. Therefore, if you know that you are in the will of God for your life then you cannot give up if you fail. You may have to rethink and use a different approach but you must continue until you cross the finish line.

I pray that you will be strengthened and that you will know in your mind that you are a winner. I pray that your mountain of problems will be removed in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Missing My Daughter

This morning, I said goodbye to my beautiful daughter at the airport before she checked in to board a flight back to the city where she attends college. I walked with her to check in her bag and watched her as she goes through security check. This time I did not cry even though I missed her very much. I am now looking forward to her visit during spring break.

She was home for about three weeks and I was very grateful and happy to have her home. We talked a lot while she was home and we enjoyed activities at home and outside the home.

Already, I missed hearing her calling for me and inviting me to watch something with her on her computer. She likes to plan events for the family and I will be missing that for awhile until she returns in the spring. I also miss her laughter and her singing; however, I will still hear those on Skype or by telephone.

Today, I am thankful for the three weeks that my daughter spent at home and for all the activities that we shared. I am also thankful for the opportunity that she has to attend college. I am thankful for the media of Skype, Facebook, and the telephone that will help us to stay connected.

This Prayer is for You my Lovely Daughter:

Dear God in the name of Jesus, I pray that You will continue to protect my daughter and to walk her in Your divine purpose for her life. I pray that You will bless her in every area of her life. I pray that you will continue to give her strength as she serves you in the areas that You have placed her. May she continue to love and trust You all the days of her life. Amen.

To My Readers:

If you are missing a love one that is some distances away I pray that you will be comforted and that you will make time to stay in touch with each other. I also pray that you will be able to see your love ones as much as possible.

6 Tips to Help You Find a Job

Although the unemployment rate is decreasing there are still many people without jobs. During 2009, when unemployment was at a record high in my state, I was blessed to transfer from my former job to a new position. Below are 6 tips that I personally used:

1. I updated my resume and only included details that were relevant to the job that I was applying for. I had a cover letter that was tailored to the position I was seeking.

2. I seached company websites that advertised the position I was interested in and submitted my resume electronically. I went to companies and picked up application forms and hand delivered the completed forms to the companies. I enquired from people about openings at their work places.

3. I applied for all openings within a company that related to the job that I was seeking.

4. I studied everything that was important about the companies that I applied to. The mission statement and core values of the company are important to know, and any accreditation that the company received.

5. I read articles on interviews so that I would be fully prepared for an interview.

6. I prayed and believed that I had a job by faith.

I hope you find the above-mentioned tips useful in your search for a job. After applying for about three positions in the company that I now work for, I told one of my friends that I did not hear from the organization. She then encouraged me to keep on applying for the positions each time they posted them. I followed her suggestion and about a month after I was invited for an interview and was offered my current position. After I accepted the position at my present company, I was invited to three more companies for interviews and I respectfully turned down the interviews.

Even in hard times you can get a job. Keep on searching until you are hired. I wish you all the best in all your endeavours.

Until the next post I encourage you to listen to Les Brown, a well known motivational speaker.

Hold On Help is on the Way

The story of Ted Williams the homeless man who was pan-handling in Columbus, Ohio is very inspiring, and shows that anyone can have a positive change to challenging situations. Williams was out asking for help as usual when the right person stopped and recorded his voice and placed it on YouTube and that was the beginning of fame and the end of his struggles. Since his story aired he has been offered many jobs. I am very happy that Williams received another chance to better his life. Not everyone will experience instant fame like Williams; however, with hard work and the right strategies we may be able to change or eliminate our negative circumstances. If you are going through rough times I am encouraging you to hold on and continue to seek help to get out of your circumstances. Help may be just around the corner so never give up.

I can remember years ago in Jamaica when I sent my son with $20.00 to purchase items at a corner grocery store and he lost the money on his way to the store. After losing the money my son rushed home to tell me about losing the $20.00. I then accompanied my son to search for the money. Night was falling and it was hard to see as we retraced his steps to the shop. We looked for a long time for the money and did not find it. Upon  reaching a corner in the road we felt exhausted and we were going to go back home; however, we decided that we would look for the money around the corner and then return home. I can remember this incident as if it happened today. As we went around the corner and the road straightened we saw the $20.00 laying on the road. We were very happy that we had decided to look for the money some more. Without this decision we would have never found the money that was laying only a few feet from where we almost quit the search. This story has been a source of inspiration for me and my family, especially when we experience challenging situations. Remembering this event helps us to continue to fight through our circumstances until we are successful.

Today, if you are experiencing tough times I am encouraging you to hold on and to never give up. Use all the resources that are available to you to get your problem resolved. Do not let embarrassment about your situation hold you back from getting help. If Williams did not hold up his sign about his talented voice and use that talent that he had as he pan-handled he may not have risen from homelessness and deprivation.

As long as you are breathing there is hope for your situation and help is on the way. Stay in your fight until you win. You may need to change your strategy if what you have tried before did not work. Learn to encourage yourself by using self-talk.  Also talk to people who are apart of your support system. Stay positive as you work to change your circumstances.

Be encouraged by others who have successfully resolved their challenges. There is hope for you too. Never give up. Help is just around the corner.

Ted Williams got another chance in life. Your chance is on its way:

Remember to hold on because help is on the way.

5 Ways to Identify Your Dream Job

There are some people who are passionate about their jobs because they chose to work in fields that they absolutely love; however, there are others who are working in jobs that they hate and are only going to work because they believe that they would not be able to survive economically if they quit those jobs. Unfortunately, for these individuals going to work can be very stressful and some of these people are having stress related illnesses such as heart disease and respiratory problems. If you hate your job you may want to formulate a plan on how you can transition from your present job to a career that you are passionate about. You may need to start taking classes that will qualify you for your dream job. If you like working on the computer and you are an independent learner then online classes may be right for you. I know a few people who have taken all the classes for their majors online and were able to change careers. One of these people include a college professor who did all of her classes online.

Although some people have jobs that are right for them they are unhappy working in positions that are best for them because they have negative attitudes. These people need to have a grateful attitude and be thankful for their jobs and the many benefits they obtain from their employers. Examples: These people could be thankful for earning a paycheck biweekly, having affordable health insurance for themselves and their families, and working at locations that are close to their homes. These persons need to write down all the things that are related to their jobs that they are thankful for and placed a list of these things in a place where they can see them on a daily basis. If these individuals read this list out loud they may develop a grateful attitude and may eventually love going to work.

On the other hand, there are other people who do not know how to find the job that they were created to do. I believe that each person has a specific job to do on earth, even if a person is multi-talented. I also believe in multiple streams of income but I believe that each person has a specific purpose on earth and when he or she finds that purpose he or she will be truly happy on the job and will give 100 percent at all times.

Here are 5 Ways to Identify Your Dream Job:

1. Pray to your Creator and asked Him to help you identify the career choice that is right for you.

2. Conduct a self-examination and identify the things that you are good at doing, and write these things down. Next identify the one thing that you love doing above all others.

3. Also Identify the one thing that you would be willing to do for free and you would be totally happy doing it even if you did not earn any money.

4. Ask friends and relatives to help you identify the things that you do well. Relatives and friends who have known you for a while are usually able to recognize your gifts and talents.

5. Educate yourself on what you need to know in order to obtain your dream job. Then work hard and accomplish your dream career.

I pray that you will take the necessary steps to walk in your purpose, so that you will be counted among the people who have found their dream jobs.

I encourage you to take a few minutes to listen to Pastor Joel Osteen:

With God all things are possible.

Overcoming Challenging Situations

For many people the year 2010, was a very challenging one. Many people had lost their jobs; and as a result, these people lost many of their possessions such as their homes and cars. Some individuals were not in a position to adequately provide for the basic needs of their family. Some of these people might have lost hope in life and are feeling a sense of despair. Therefore, I am here to inform them that there is hope for their situations because they are still counted among the living. I would like to encourage these individuals to continue to seek solutions for their problems until they are triumphant.

If you are one of those people who have entered 2011, feeling hopeless because you are still facing challenging situations such as unemployment, I am encouraging you not to give up. You may need to do some things differently from what you were doing in 2010, but you must keep on trying to resolve your challenges until you are victorious.

To become an overcomer you have to be an overcomer in your mind before it becomes reality. "... Faith is the substance of things hoped for the evidence of things not seen" (Hebrews 11: 1). Whatever you have prayed and hoped for faith is the evidence or the warranty deed that you have what you have prayed for. Also, it is important to know that "... faith without works is dead"  (James 2: 20). For example, if you are without a job you should be seeking a job, see yourself with the job that you are seeking, and believing that you have a job by faith.

If you are feeling hopeless I would also encourage you to fill your mind with words of hope. I have found words of hope in the Bible, which is my first favorite book, and I have also found words of hope in other books such as "The Power of Positive Thinking."  Words of hope will help to strengthen your faith as you work on overcoming your challenges. Whenever you feel discouraged you can encourage yourself with Words such as: "I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength" (Phil. 4: 13).

It is also important to have positive people in your life who may be able to encourage you to hold on while you deal with your circumstances. These people can also be very good listeners if you have a need to talk. It is also imperative that you seek help if you need help.

Also having an attitude of gratitude is very helpful in taking our minds off our circumstances and focus our minds on being thankful.  Yes, you may be going though rough times but if you look at your life you can find something to be thankful for. You can be thankful that you are alive. You can be thankful that you are in your right mind. You can be thankful that you live in a free country. You can be thankful for family and friends. Just look around and you may be amazed at how many things you can be thankful for.

My prayer for you  for 2011, is that you will overcome your challenges. I pray that this year will be the best year of your life. I pray that whatever your circumstances are they will be resolved this year. I pray that you will have the peace of God and that you may experience His unconditional love in your life. I also pray that your mind will be renewed and that you will live in hope and all your heart desires will become reality!!

I leave you with this song: He Will Do It Again, by Shirley Caesar.
